Babubhai was born into a Vankar (weaver) family in the small village of Kandherai, a place widely known for its rich weaving tradition and often referred to as a “weavers’ village.” Growing up in this environment, he was naturally introduced to the art of weaving from a very young age. Surrounded by skilled artisans in his family and community, he developed a deep interest in the craft and began his journey as a weaving worker.
In the early stages of his career, Babubhai dedicated himself to learning the fundamentals of weaving. With time, patience, and continuous practice, he not only mastered traditional techniques but also began experimenting and innovating new weaving methods. His curiosity and commitment to improving his craft helped him stand out among his peers.
After gaining experience, he took a bold step to start working independently. This phase of his journey was not easy—he faced several challenges, including limited resources, financial constraints, and market competition. However, Babubhai remained determined. With consistent hard work, resilience, and strong support from his family, he gradually overcame these obstacles.
Over the years, his dedication paid off, and he earned recognition as a Master Artisan. Today, Babubhai collaborates with many well-known designers, contributing his expertise to high-quality textile creations. He has developed exceptional skills in crafting Sarees, carpets, rugs, shawls, and other handwoven products using premium materials such as Kala cotton and Merino wool.
In addition to his weaving expertise, Babubhai is also self-taught in the process of dyeing. His ability to handle both weaving and dyeing processes makes him a versatile and highly skilled artisan. His journey is a true example of passion, perseverance, and the power of traditional craftsmanship evolving with innovation
